DAY ONE: Flights

Flight from CHC to AKL was really good- I got through the scanner thing without any hassles. Flight attendants were nice and helpful, we had nice food (carrot cake and coffee) as a snack. I've decided to start drinking my coffee black, so it's easier in USA. I'm not nervous anymore; I know everything will be great.

Arrived in Auckland safely, met Aunty Anne at the bag check place. We went upstairs and had a coffee and a drink or two before I had to catch my next flight. I also bought a new book to read on the plane- the 5th Artemis Fowl one.

Flight from AKL to LAX was good too. No problems whatsoever getting through customs in Auckland or in Los Angeles. On this flight I sat next to an American lady named Paula- she's 64 and from Chicago. She was just flying back home from a 14 day tour of NZ with a tour group and one of her friends. They gave us free alcohol on the plane :P

Arriving in LAX was fine too; again- breezed through customs- except that I had to refill out one of the forms because I forgot to tick yes for food as I was bringing in a bag of chips off the plane. Got my bag checked onto the next flight really easily, a lady just pointed and said to give my bag to that guy who was putting them through the xray thing again and straight back onto the plane. The red thing on my TSA lock hadn't popped up, so no-one had searched my bag or anything, either. I wasn't scared at all when I arrived, I actually laughed because it was finally happening- I'd finally arrived in USA. I wandered around for a few minutes looking lost but found a payphone and left a message at home on the answering machine because everyone was at work already. One of the airport helper people pointed me in the direction of the food court- I had to walk outside and to the building next door- all in the same terminal wing though. Found myself a place to sit and got a frozen mocha which ended up costing close to $9 NZ haha, nana and grandad were right about the tax and ridiculous prices. Went on my laptop for half an hour or so, and talked to Valentina and Curtis on webcam/skype/msn but my battery was close to dying, so I had to call it quits.

Getting through customs on the way out of LAX was easy enough too, but I accidentally put my boarding pass through with my bag on the xray machine and had to wait for a minute while they checked it. I didn't beep in the metal detector and I didn't get frisked.

Flight from LAX to STL was really good. At first, I was seated next to this disgustingly fat man where I was crammed up near the back against the window. 5 mins before take off, one of the flight attendants came over and said there was a spare seat a few rows back and would I like to move so we can have more room. I changed seats and it was a lot nicer after that.
